On The Clock: Picks 17 – 18

Continuing with my mock draft, on the clock today are picks 17 – 18. To recap:

1. Carolina – Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
2. Denver – DaQuan Bowers, DE, Clemson
3. Buffalo – Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri
4. Cincinnati – Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
5. Arizona – Von Miller, LB, Texas A&M
6. Cleveland – AJ Green, WR, Georgia
7. San Francisco – Robert Quinn, DE/LB, UNC
8. Tennessee – Nick Fairly, DT, Auburn
9. Dallas – Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
10. Washington – Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
11. Houston – Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
12. Minnesota – Cameron Jordan, DE, California
13. Detroit – Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College
14. St. Louis – JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin
15. Miami – Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
16. Jacksonville – Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue

With the seventeenth pick in the NFL draft, the New England Patriots select: Mike Pouncey, G/C, Florida. With the retirement of Stephen Neal, the Pats will look to add depth and possibly an immediate starter on the O-Line. Already in the limelight due to the success of his brother Maurkice in Pittsburgh last season, Mike Pouncey is considered the top interior lineman in the draft and should be able to start his rookie season. With multiple picks in each of the first four rounds, the Pats have a lot of options to trade up or down to get exactly the guy they want.

With the eighteenth pick in the NFL draft, the San Diego Chargers select: Nate Solder, OT, Colorado. The 6’8″, 319 pound monster would be an instant upgrade on the O-Line and add some punch to the Charger’s running game. They may look at DE at this spot, but Solder would be very hard to pass up for a team in need of a upgrade at right tackle.
