On The Clock: Picks 27 – 28

My mock draft continues today with the top two teams from the regular season, who both choked in their first playoff games against hot wildcard teams. On the clock are picks 27 – 28. To recap:

1. Carolina – Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
2. Denver – DaQuan Bowers, DE, Clemson
3. Buffalo – Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri
4. Cincinnati – Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
5. Arizona – Von Miller, LB, Texas A&M
6. Cleveland – AJ Green, WR, Georgia
7. San Francisco – Robert Quinn, DE/LB, UNC
8. Tennessee – Nick Fairly, DT, Auburn
9. Dallas – Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
10. Washington – Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
11. Houston – Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
12. Minnesota – Cameron Jordan, DE, California
13. Detroit – Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College
14. St. Louis – JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin
15. Miami – Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
16. Jacksonville – Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue
17. New England – Mike Pouncey, G/C, Florida
18. San Diego – Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
19. New York Giants – Tyron Smith, OT, USC
20. Tampa Bay – Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa
21. Kansas City – Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois
22. Indianapolis – Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
23. Philadelphia – Akeem Ayers, LB, UCLA
24. New Orleans – Justin Houston, LB, Georgia
25. Seattle – Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami
26. Baltimore – Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado

With the twenty seventh pick in the NFL draft, the Atlanta Falcons select: Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri. John Abraham is getting long in the tooth, so getting some young legs on the defensive line would be a wise decision. After a 13-3 regular season mark, they don’t have a lot of needs and thus will look to add quality depth.

With the twenty eighth pick in the NFL draft, the New England Patriots select: Brooks Reed, DE/LB, Arizona. I will be astonished if the Pats don’t trade out of one of their first day picks, but if they don’t they will get another pass rusher to revamp their D.
