Mock Draft: Top of the Second Round

I know I have completed my mock draft, but what fun would it be to leave the quarterback question unanswered? A quick spin through the top of round 2 will do the trick:

33. New England – They will trade this pick. Write it down in permanent marker. Somebody is taking Jake Locker, QB, Washington
34. Buffalo – Phil Taylor, DT, Baylor
35. Cincinnati – Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State or Andy Dalton, QB, TCU

I think the Bengals will take a quarterback on Day 2 of the draft, and I personally like Dalton but I know a lot has been made of how well Ponder fits a West Coast offense. Either way, having a replacement for Palmer seems not only prudent but a necessity. I think that with so many teams needing a QB in the top half of each round, we can’t afford to wait until round three to get one. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the teams picking past the Bengals in round 2 trade up to get their guy before our pick. New England loves trading picks, and at 33 they are in the perfect spot to trade down and still get a player they covet. Other options for us in the 2nd round are Ryan Mallett, Colin Kaepernick, and Ricki Stanzi.

Bengals pick rewind: While I have the Bengals going with Patrick Peterson in the first round, most media outlets have us taking either a QB or WR. If the Bengals do decide to go offense in the first round, they may elect to take WR Julio Jones over WR AG Green, this according to Peter King in his Monday Morning QB column. While Jones has shown more speed than Green, he is recovering from an injury suffered at the NFL scouting combine and few would argue that he plays the ball better than Green. I think either player would be a nice addition, but we have some nice young receivers already and I really like what they were able to do late last season.

Q: Who Dey!
A: Noooooobody!
