Free Agency Whispers

Compiled here, from various internet reports, are the veteran free agents the Bengals have been in contact with so far:

  • RB Cedric Benson (Bengals)
  • RB Brandon Jackson (Packers)
  • DeAngelo Williams (Panthers)
  • QB Bruce Gradkowski (Raiders)
  • QB Jim Sorgi (Giants)
  • LB Brandon Johnson (Bengals)
  • CB Johnathan Joseph (Bengals)
  • OG Robert Gallery (Raiders)
  • DT Jonathan Fanene (Bengals)

We’ll provide more updates as we get them.  Williams and Gallery appear to be the big surprises so far, as their price tags will be high for traditional Bengal free agents.

We expect the Bengals to announce their Undrafted Free Agent signees today.  Teams will be able to carry 90 players through the first 3 weeks of preseason due to the delays with the CBA, so we expect several UFA’s to be on that list.

Also, it appears that Donovan McNabb is being dealt to Minnesota, and Matt Hasselbeck has signed with Tennessee.

Joseph is the obvious top priority on that list. I would put Brandon Johnson right behind him and DeAngelo Williams if at all possible. Fanane would be a good keep. I don’t know Gallery, but I like that they are looking at the O-line. They could certainly get Sorgi as chief clipboard holder (he is plenty used to that role), but if there is any shot he could be needed, don’t.
