According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Johnathan Joseph is headed to the Houston Texans, leaving the Bengals with a vacancy in the defensive backfield opposite Leon Hall. The team might have his replacement on hand with Adam Jones (who reportedly passed his physical), Morgan Trent, and Brandon Ghee already under contract.
Former Ohio State Buckeye cornerback Nate Clements was also cut by San Francisco today if the Bengals are looking for a free agent replacement. With Joseph not re-signing, the Bengals have some significant money to spend to get over the expected salary floor that is in the new collective bargaining agreement. The team will certainly be re-signing some of its other free agents (likely Ced Benson and Brian Leonard), but may also need to extend other players early (Leon Hall would be a great candidate), or sign a few other free agents.
Regardless, it’s been a very busy few days from a personnel perspective and things aren’t going to stop anytime soon.
