It’s no secret that with the lack of depth at linebacker, the Bengals are in need of making a few signings at all 3 positions. So when word out of camp broke early Tuesday morning that former 49ers SAM linebacker, Manny Lawson, had signed with the Bengals it was no real surprise at all. After all, it had been rumored for a few hours that he was a target of the Bengals front office.
Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com tweeted “That would project line up Lawson-Maualuga-Howard in Cleveland Sept. 11″.
That’s not a bad starting linebacking corps. Add to that an up and coming LB in Dontay Moch who they drafted in the 3rd round but is a project at the moment, and if they can get Keith Rivers healthy, this defense is starting to shape up…on paper. You have to think at this point that Marvin Lewis and Mike Zimmer are pretty stoked about their newest addition.
Lawson was drafted in the first round (22nd overall) by the 49ers out of NC State. It was there where he teamed up on the defensive line with former #1 overall pick Mario Williams of the Houston Texans.
Starting MLB Rey Maualuga tweeted “He’ll be a good addition to the squad. Cant wait!”
After the week Bengals fans had a week ago, a lot of us are starting to feel the same way! Can’t wait!
