Mort: Bengals Will Play Simpson

Chris Mortensen reports via his twitter page that the Bengals plan to include WR Jerome Simpson on today’s active game roster:

Bengals plan to play WR Jerome Simpson vs. 49ers despite being excused from practice following marijuana bust at home this week.

Simpson was excused from practice on Thursday and Friday after police discovered 2.5 pounds of marijuana was delivered to his home via the US Postal Service.  A subsequent search of his house turned up more of the illegal drug.

No charges or arrests have been filed as of yet, and there is precious few details available.  The Bengals haven’t confirmed or denied the report, but did say they would announce Simpson’s status before the 11:30 deadline for inactives.

It’s important to reserve judgement until all of the facts are available to the general public.  Simpson’s side of this story has yet to be told, and certainly Marvin Lewis has more knowledge and details than the rest of us do.  He’s on record as saying he’ll do “What’s best for Jerome,” in terms of his position on the team, and that will have to be good enough for the rest of us for now.

At any rate, the Bengals will have an unwanted distraction going into the Niners game–in addition to the Benson suspension speculation.  Let’s hope our fiery quarterback can push the team past all of this and snare the “W” today.
