According to SportsInteraction, the Bengals are three-point favorites despite the tsunami of distractions that hit the locker room this week. Jerome Simpson is listed as questionable, and I hope he doesn’t play, saving the Bengals from another black eye on the national landscape. There shouldn’t be a huge dropoff with Andre Caldwell starting, and there is enough receiver depth on the roster with Brandon Tate possibly getting a few more opportunities on offense. I also expect Jermaine Gresham to be more involved in the game plan than he was last week in Denver.
On defense, I expect the Bengals to put together one of their best efforts of the season. Manny Lawson, Nate Clements, and Taylor Mays, who were all 49ers last season, should be able to exploit their knowledge of their old teammates. Look for a defensive gem from Cincinnati after struggling a bit in Denver.
Overall, I think Cincinnati will return to a more ground-based attack than what we saw in the second-half in Denver, and I like the Bengals in a relatively low-scoring game.
I’ll say Cincinnati wins 20-17.
