Bengals and Jags Tied 13-13 at Half

The Bengals have survived a poor first half thanks to some outstanding plays by their defense and young offensive playmakers to head to the locker room knotted with Jacksonville at 13.  Cincinnati overcame a poor start on defense, in which Maurice Jones Drew gashed them for 41 yards and a touchdown en route to a 7-0 lead on their opening possession.  The Bengals responded with a 37-yard pass from Andy Dalton to A.J. Green on 3rd-and-17 to tie it up at 7.

Then the Bengals started to go into the tank, with poor tackling on defense, an interception of Dalton on offense, and some penalties and sacks.  Luckily, the Jaguars were only able to convert those into 6 points on 2 field goals, despite having first-and-goal inside the ten twice.

The Bengals were able to pull it together just before the half, with Andy Dalton finding TE Jermaine Gresham for his second TD pass of the day to tie it at 13.  Cincinnati overcame two penalties on the drive to get the score (a holding call on Nate Livings and a false start on Kyle Cook). Mike Nugent’s ensuing extra point hit the right upright and was no good, accounting for his first miss of any kind this year.

The wind was a factor throughout the first half, particularly in the second quarter for the Bengals.

The Bengals won the toss, but deferred to the second half, meaning they’ll have the ball first after the break.
