Bengals Playoff Chances: 34-Percent

After yesterday’s win over the Rams and losses by the other Wild Card contenders, the Bengals’ playoff chances got a huge surge, rising from 13-percent before the game to 34-percent today (according to PlayoffStatus.com)

It’s incredibly exciting considering where Cincinnati was last weekend, but let’s not lose sight of the important details. The Jets still have to lose one more and the Bengals must win out to get into the playoffs. It’s a lot more likely than it was last week, but it’s far from a certainty.

So don’t celebrate too much yet.

As an FYI. Technically, the Bengals do not have to win out to make it to the playoffs, but the numbers get really complicated. They do have to win at least one game, preferably the Baltimore game. If the Jets lose out (unlikely), then one win puts the Bengals up on them with a win. If the Bengals beat Baltimore and Jets lose to Miami, Bengals take the edge back over the Jets based on conference record. Too bad the math isn’t that simple because all those AFC West teams factor in the possibilities too. So, best thing to do is to sit back, relax and watch the Bengals beat the Cardinals while the Giants beat the Jets. Then, the Bengals are back in the driver’s seat.
