Kiper: Dennard, Miller to Bengals

In his first mock draft, ESPN guru Mel Kiper tabbed Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard and Miami running back Lamar Miller for the Bengals. Dennard is a little undersized for the Bengals’ taste at 5-10, but Miller is an intriguing prospect because of his home-run ability. Miller had a long run of 79 yards this past season and averaged over five yards per carry. He could provide an explosive threat in a Bengals running game that has far too ofetn been stuck in the slow lane. There will be more mocks to come, but both running back and cornerback will likely get targeted at some point in the draft.

A LOT of mock drafts have those same guys going to Cincy, especially Lamar Miller. They’re both explosive players that are a little smaller for their positions than the Bengals usually like. But what the Bengals like hasn’t won a playoff game in a long time, so maybe it’s time for a change.

I would not have a problem with taking Lamar Miller is Trent Richardson is off the board when our first pick arrives. Lamar is a great RB and has good hands for our playbook. Also, Miami is known for producing some very talented RBs. Alfonzo Dennard is a different story. He could not contain his emotions on the field during their bowl game and started a fight against Alshon Jefferies. He has also struggled against other larger receivers. In my opinion, pass on Alfonzo for an OL or a different DB.
