Four months ago I was upbraided by a throng of BoneHeads (Cleveland’s version of a cheese head) for questioning the Browns’ receivers and the wisdom of dumping yet another QB. I was colorfully informed that the sum total of all of Cleveland’s problems in 2011 rested solely with Colt McCoy. Replacing him would restore the franchise to glory.
After one game, it seems that fans of the Mistake On The Lake are ready to go back to McCoy, the guy that one Browns fan referred to as “hot dumpster water” just a few months ago. Tom Reed of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports:
Shurmur was asked what he’d say to some fans “clamoring” for backup Colt McCoy: “Clamoring for Colt? Brandon Weeden is our starter and he’s going to get better, that’s what I’m going to tell them.”
I knew it would happen. When Weeden struggled (as any QB with a corp of WRs with butter-coated hands will do), they would turn on him and demand the next guy. It’s why they have sucked for 15 years now. But even I didn’t think it would happen after Week 1.
Cleveland, you make me laugh.
