Offense vs. Offense

If you’re one of those people that think that football games are won and lost by the defense then you should NOT watch this game because it couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Let’s be honest here.  The Bengals’ D sucks…the Redskins’ D sucks…Carson Palmer sucks but that’s neither her nor there.  The truth is that this game game is all about offense.  I know that you win a game by scoring more points than the other team, but this game will truly about which offense can score more points against the other teams (up till now) shitty defense.  Let’s go to the numbers shall we?

The Redskins’ defense is currently ranked 28th overall giving up an average of 405 yards a game (313.5 yards passing).  How can it get any worse?  The Bengals’ defense said, “Hey!  We can be worse than you any day!”  They bring to the party the 30th overall defense giving up a whopping 434.5 yards a game (308.5 yards passing).  The big difference between the two is that Washington’s run D is 10th overall (91.5 yards a game) while Cincinnati’s is 19th (126 yards a game).  Analysis…both of our secondaries blow but they can stop the run better than us.  Let’s move on to less depressing numbers.

The Redskins’ offense is currently ranked 4th putting up an average of 416 yards a game while the Bengals’ are 18th with 348.5 yards a game.  Wait…this isn’t less depressing.  I’m going to stop.  Let’s get to the prediction.

Week 1: Mon, Sep 10 – Cincinnati at Baltimore Ravens, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN)

13-44  L 0-1

1-0 on Picks

Week 2: Sun, Sep 16 – Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati, 1 p.m. ET (CBS)

37-27   W 1-1

2-0 on Picks

Week 3: Sun, Sep 23 – Cincinnati at Washington Redskins, 1 p.m. ET (CBS)

Every…single…number you can look at is against us winning this game.  Offense…Defense…it all looks bad.  However, the numbers I am focusing on is our offense.  It improved immensely from Week 1 to Week 2 and I believe that it will continue to improve.  Dalton is going to put up some big numbers now that he has ‘Baby Hawk’ and Binns to help take the pressure off Green, who will also have a huge game.  The addition of Scott being back this week will make sure that we always have a fresh set of legs in the backfield which should produce more numbers on the ground as well.  I love you Leonard, but you just weren’t getting it done.  I guess you’re just destined to be an awesome 3rd down back.

Despite losing another key defensive player to a season-ending injury (Howard) I have to look at the positives.  DUNLAP IS BACK!  This pass-rushing god has sorely been missed.  If we ever needed to put pressure on a quarterback it’s this week against RG3.  Jason Allen looks like he’s going to be back and I’ll take any other corner I can get right now to mix it up because our secondary has been extremely unimpressive.  Hall sat a little this week from practice but hopefully he’ll play.  I don’t know why I’m saying that because even he has looked bad.  But I have a hunch that if he does play he’ll get his first INT of the season…mark my words…it’ll happen.

All-in-all, I’m looking for this game to be the battle of the QBs.  Whichever passer plays better will hold the W in his hands.  I believe it’s as simple as that.  I don’t have a score prediction but it will be a high scorer and the winner will eek it out by one score.  I’m putting my faith on the line and I’m picking my team.  WHO DEY!

Solid prediction. You hit on almost every point. Hall didn’t play so no one can fault you there. The running game is still terrible, can’t believe it only took three weeks as a Bengal for the law firm to fumble for the first time in his career. The pass rushers looked terrific. I really enjoyed how they started putting RGIII in the dirt every time he started to run the option. That made shanahan stop calling that play.

Pretty accurate in the end except Scott didn’t contribute jack shit lol… I’m excited about the offense though.
