In advance of this year’s draft and my upcoming book, the draft countdown continues.
Did you know?
NFL Network Mike Mayock was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 10th round of the 1981 draft. His dad was a Steelers draft pick in the 1950s.
Bengals Thought: In Mayock’s most recent draft rankings, his running backs are as follows:
1. Eddie Lacy, Alabama
2. Montee Ball, Wisconsin
3. Andre Ellington, Clemson
4. Giovani Bernard, North Carolina
5. Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina
Of the group, Lacy, Ball, and Lattimore would seem to be similar players to Benjarvus Green-Ellis. Ellington and Bernard are perhaps better complements. Overall, it’s a deep running back class, with a lot of talent. The Bengals can get a back with some legitimate skills in the second round and beyond. Bernard is intriguing to me because he has both good speed and some experience catching the ball out of the backfield, which I think would help the Bengals offense.
