Behind Enemy Lines - Jets

by Number 1 fan 29. December 2009 11:29

This week we ask our 5 questions to Marc over at theJetPress.com.  Who knows, maybe we will need to think of 5 more questions to ask him next week.

What Scares You About the Bengals?

I'm scared the Jets don't take the Bengals too seriously and lose this game.
The Bengals have a solid D and QB Mark Sanchez needs to keep the Jets in the game by not throwing INTs.
It sounds like a cop out but if Marvin Lewis wants to take a page out of the Colts playbook and rest some starters, please feel free.

What Match-Up Makes You Feel Confident in the Jets?

Jets running game is really good right now. Our offensive line with Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene are pushing teams around

Best Current Jets Player most Bengal Fans have Never Heard Of?

Shonn Greene, RB, rookie

Who Wins the Game and What's the Score?

Jets 24
Bengals 13

If there was a steel cage match instead of a football game featuring one current player, who do you nominate?

Thomas Jones. Have you seen this guy?  scary.

Behind Enemy Lines - Chargers

by Number 1 fan 16. December 2009 14:59

This week was ask our 5 questions to Ryan at BoltBeat.com.  Take it away Ryan:

What Scares You About the Bengals?
the thing that scares me most about the Bengals is their offense. They have Carson Palmer who has a great accurate arm and makes a lot of good decisions with throwing  the ball. Another person that scares me is Cedric Benson. He has been putting up great numbers this season and I think that the Chargers run defense will struggle a little against him.

What Match-Up Makes You Feel Confident in the Chargers?
Antonio Gates against any receiver is a great matchup for the Chargers. He is a huge receiver who is fast, agile, and knows how to use his body to keep the ball from defenders. This season has been a career high season for him. This is mainly because defenses can't find a way to stop him. He is always able to get away from defenders and get up field and make great catches.

Best Current Chargers Player most Bengal Fans have Never Heard Of?

Malcolm Floyd. He is starting to become a huge part of the offense this season and has made some great plays. His height, 6'5", will over power the Bengals defense, whose tallest safety is 6'2".

Who Wins the Game and What's the Score?
It's going to be a great game but I think the Chargers are going to win 30-21. Rivers is going to have 300+ yards along with a couple TDs. LT is going to get around 60 rushing yards and a score. I'm also predicting that there is going to be a defensive touchdown, but just guessing on that.

If there was a steel cage match instead of a football game featuring one current player, who do you nominate?
I would have to go back to Antonio Gates. He played Center in college at Kent State for basketball. He knows how you use his body to box out people. He is a great blocking tight end also. He would mess people up.

Behind Enemy Lines - Vikings

by Number 1 fan 9. December 2009 20:31

We asked Dan from the Viking Age our standard five questions.  Below are his answers.

What Scares You About the Bengals?

Their defense worries me quite a bit.  The more you look at their numbers, the more impressed you are.  They are obviously a tough unit.  The Vikings really got pushed around by the Cardinals last week and I'm concerned it could happen again.  We need to match the Bengals' physicality if our offense is going to bounce back from what was frankly a horrible performance.

What Match-Up Makes You Feel Confident in the Vikings?

I always have confidence in Brett Favre vs. anybody's secondary, whether he has time in the pocket or not.  And that's even after he admitted he was confused by the Cardinals' defensive shifting last week.

Best Current Vikings Player most Bengal Fans have Never Heard Of?

A guy I love watching, who isn't a big-name guy, is Benny Sapp.  He's been starting at cornerback since Antoine Winfield got hurt and has developed into a poor man's Winfield.  He tackles and his coverage is usually solid.  The only knock on him is, he's a hot-head, and he'll draw dumb penalties.  But he's just one of those guys who makes plays.

Who Wins the Game and What's the Score?

I think it will be close.  I don't think it will be a shootout.  The Vikes are tough at home and, even though they're banged up, I think they'll win.  They have something to prove, to themselves as much as everyone else, after that crap performance in Arizona.  I like the Vikes 21-17.

If there was a steel cage match instead of a football game featuring one current player, who do you nominate?

Pat Williams.  He's huge and he's freakishly quick for his size.  And when he gets his hands on you, you don't get away.

Behind Enemy Lines - Raiders

by Number 1 fan 18. November 2009 22:12

This week the Bengals make the cross country trek to take on the Oakland Raiders.  I decided to shoot our 5 questions over to Chris at JustBlogBaby.com and he was kind enough to answer.

What Scares You About the Bengals?

The ground game. Is Benson going to play? Does it really matter? Stephen Hawking could run on the Raiders. Plus, Larry   Johnson is a notorious Raider killer and his arrival couldn't have come at a worse time.

What Match-Up Makes You Feel Confident in the Raiders?

Nnamdi Asomugha vs. anybody. I don't think people understand how good this guy is. Before last Sunday, Nnamdi had only been thrown at 11 times all year. Considering he plays almost exclusive bump and run coverage makes him even more remarkable. It's like Rosie O'Donnell is doing nude jumping jacks on whatever side of the field he's on cause QBs just don't look his way.

Best Current Raiders Player most Bengal Fans have Never Heard Of?

Wide receiver Chaz Schilens is the guy to keep an eye on. He was a 7th round choice a year ago and found his way into the starting lineup by season's end. He suffered a broken foot in camp so last week was his first action. Schilens is a tall 6'4", runs a 4.3 in the 40, attacks the ball in the air and runs crisp routes. He was the only guy capable of catching any ball from JaMarcus Russell no matter how much it looked like a water balloon in flight.

Who Wins the Game and What's the Score?

This is a classic trap game for Cincy. If they don't get cocky it could be a 24-10 victory. If Lewis doesn't have his boys ready to play, like Andy Reid pulled a few weeks ago in Oakland, it could be an ugly 13-10 Raider victory. The key is jumping out early. Oakland is not built to come from behind.

If there was a steel cage match instead of a football game featuring one current player, who do you nominate?

Michael Mitchell. He was the talk of the draft after the Raiders grabbed him in the second round when nobody had him on their radar. He's a safety who is only a situational play thus far but whenever he gets a chance he lays the wood. He put a nasty hit on Brandon Jacobs that knocked the big guy back five yards on the goal line. Mitchell is the type who would be rushing his opponent before the ref has even started the fight. Straight killer.

Behind Enemy Lines - Steelers away game

by Number 1 fan 12. November 2009 11:08

This week we again talk with the folks over at NicePickCowher.com  Check out our answers to their questions over on their site.

1. What makes you confident in this matchup with the Bengals?

Two words:  Troy Polamalu.  When last our teams met, Troy was still nursing his injured knee.  Since he's come back, our defense has gotten back to their championship form of last year.  Without him, we have a good defense.  With him, we have a great one.

2. What makes you nervous?

One player we no longer have is Aaron Smith, who is lost for season.  Smith is our best run-stopper along the defensive line.  To make  matters worse, his capable back up, Travis Kirschke, has a strained calf probably won't play either. Miraculously, our defense has held up pretty well without them but the prospect of facing a red hot Cedric Benson is certainly a big concern.

3. Does the loser of this game still have a shot at the playoffs?

Considering both the Steelers and Ravens made the playoffs last season, I'd say it's entirely possible.

4. Is this a bigger game for the Bengals or the Steelers?

Definitely the Steelers.  For one thing, they have to redeem themselves after blowing that big lead in the first game. And secondly, a loss on Sunday means Pittsburgh is effectively two games out of first place with only 7 left to play.  While I think there's room for both teams

in the playoffs, I'd prefer to stay out of the dogfight the AFC Wild Card is sure to be.

5. Prediction?

31-28 Steelers.  We take the lead and Palmer mounts a furious comeback except this time we hang on for the win.

Behind Enemy Lines - Ravens home game

by Number 1 fan 4. November 2009 20:17

We again asked our questions to Joe Barnes over at the EbonyBird about this weekends upcoming game. I changed the questions up because this is the second time the Bengals face the Ravens. The first for those of you that don't remember was the game where Benson slayed streaks and the Bengals won another close one.

1. Who are the Ravens? They won their first 3 against sub par teams. Lost 3 then destroyed an undefeated team. Do you think last weeks Ravens are the real Ravens?

You have to realize that those three losses should have been wins.  The first one, against the Patriots, would have been a win if not for a dropped pass with 34 seconds left.  The game against the Bengals, well, you know what happened there, and the last game against the Vikings was lost because of a pass interference call.  Last week, the Ravens were pumped up and ready to go, and showed how good everyone thought they would be coming into the season.

2. What do you want to see from Baltimore this weekend on offense?

I want to see Ray Rice with over 125 yards of total offense and Joe Flacco throwing the ball less than 30 times.  I also want to see the Ravens' O to have at least 2/3 of the possession.  If these things happen, there is little doubt in my mind they should win.

3. How about defense?

On defense, it's the same thing it's been the whole season.  The short passing game.  That's why they lost the Patriots and Vikings games, and it's a big part of their dominant defensive performance last week.  If they shut down the short swing passes and checkdowns, all they have to worry about is the run game and the deep balls, which are two things they are very good at stopping.

4. Will the Ravens focus on Cedric Benson because of the record he broke?

The Ravens focus on the top running back every week regardless of any record.  With that said, the defense undoubtedly knew about the streak and thus will be fired up to keep him under control.

5. What scares you this week about the Bengals?

I'm scared that the Bengals will score first.  This team has seemed like it needs a big play or to start a game or half quickly to get pumped up and into it.  If the Bengals score first, especially on a big play to Ocho, the Ravens could start flat.  It happened against the Vikings, and it took big plays from Ray Rice to get them back into the game, and eventually taking the lead.

Behind Enemy Lines - Bears

by Number 1 fan 23. October 2009 08:20

I asked Mike from BearGogglesOn.com our 5 questions about the Bears this week.  Check out his site for my answers to their questions.

What Scares You About the Bengals?

For as much as he talks a big game, Ochocinco usually backs it up, so he scares me.  I know the Bears can bottle up the Bengals rushing attack and I expect Cedric the Complainer to put a couple on the carpet on Sunday.

What Match-Up Makes You Feel Confident in the Bears?
After seeing what Matt Schaub and the Texans did against the Bengals last week, you have to think Jay Cutler and the Bears passing attack can gain move the ball through the air.  Odom’s injury should help allow JC a little more time in the pocket.

Best Current Bears Player most Bengal Fans have Never Heard Of?
I would guess that rookie wide receiver Johnny Knox is probably someone most Bengals fans haven’t heard of.  The kid has world class speed and has scored a TD if 4 straight games.  If you haven’t yet, go grab him off the waiver wire for your fantasy league.

Who Wins the Game and What's the Score?
When the schedule first came out, this was a slam dunk Bears win in my pre-season preview.  To the Bengals credit, they’ve looked really sharp this year.  All of their games have been close and they should be 5-1 had it not been for the fluky Kyle Orton/Brandon Stokley play. The Bears are coming off a disappointing loss last week in Atlanta and they usually bounce back the next week.  Bears 31, Bengals 27.

If there was a steel cage match instead of a football game featuring one current player, who do you nominate?

I wish this were possible, because I’d but the cry-baby Cedric Benson in the cage up against Lance Briggs.

Behind Enemy Lines - Baltimore Ravens

by Number 1 fan 7. October 2009 20:36

This week we play Division Rival the Baltimore Ravens. We trade questions with the Ravens blog EbonyBird.com. I answered 4 of their questions also, check out their site http://www.ebonybird.com

What Scares You About the Bengals?

The thing that scares me about the Bengals is no particular player, but the team mentality they have been playing with this season.  They seem more tenacious and more pumped up than ever.  It's a scary thought about a team that is usually thought of as an automatic win for the Ravens each matchup.

What Match-Up Makes You Feel Confident in the Ravens?

The Ravens rushing game, offensively and defensively, has been dominant.  Their two-headed monster of Ray Rice and Willis McGahee is one of the best in the NFL, and their rush defense has continued their dominance this season.

Best Current Ravens Player most Bengal Fans have Never Heard Of?

I would say Jared Gaither, the starting left tackle, but after he was taken off the field in a stretcher last week, he might not be a good answer.  I'll stay on the offensive line and say offensive guard Ben Grubbs.  The 2007 first-round pick has been a key part of the line's unexpected dominance this year and he has been dominating defensive linemen to help the running game along thus far.  He is almost never called for penalties, and is a physical freak.

Who Wins the Game and What's the Score?

I think that this game will be really good.  The Bengals are playing better than they ever have in the last few years, and the Ravens are playing for redemption after last week's performance and with heavy hearts as former teammate Tony Fein died this week.  I have to say the Ravens in a close one, 28-27.

If there was a steel cage match instead of a football game featuring one current player, who do you nominate?

In a steel cage match? I would have to call on Terrell Suggs.  If Bart Scott were still in Baltimore, he would be the obvious choice, but T-Sizzle hits hard and usually doesn't care who he hurts.  With that said, I would love to see fullback Le'Ron McClain in a steel cage match too.  Are tag teams allowed?

Behind Enemy Lines - Cleveland

by Number 1 fan 30. September 2009 19:05

This week we sent our 5 questions over to the guys at DawgPoundDaily.com.

What Scares You About the Bengals?
The Bengals "D", in my opinion it has really stepped it up so far.

What Match-Up Makes You Feel Confident in the Browns?
Possibly the Browns front 7 getting a "pass rush" against the Bengals o-line, maybe there will be some extra motivation there too this week with all the media reports about Mangini

Best Current Browns Player most Bengal Fans have Never Heard Of?
D'Qwell Jackson

Who Wins the Game and What's the Score?
Hurts me to admit this but 24-17 Bengals.

If there was a steel cage match instead of a football game featuring one current player, who do you nominate?
(Tie)
Derek Anderson, in the hope that he would either get hurt or win....either way it would be used to end this crazy QB situation.
Shaun Rogers, because no one would be able to stop him.

Behind Enemy Lines - Steelers

by Number 1 fan 23. September 2009 20:51

This week we talk with the folks over at NicePickCowher.com  Check out our answers to their questions over on their site.

What Scares You About the Bengals?

The loss of superstar TroyPolamalu has thrown our usually dominant defense into disarray.  We only have 2 sacks total for the entire year because our linebackers have been used more in coverage.  Then we have our safety situation where Polamalu's replacement, Tyrone Carter, also appears to be out this week.  That leaves second year man Ryan Mundy to make his first ever NFL start.

Long story short, our pass defense hasn't been good this year.  You have some fella taking the snaps, Carson Palmer I believe is his name, who's a pretty good passer.

What Match-Up Makes You Feel Confident in the Steelers?

Big Ben vs. your secondary.  When I saw Roy Williams on Hard Knocks, I admit I laughed aloud.  I remember him getting beaten like a drum when we played Dallas last season.  Not to mention, any secondary that lets Kyle Freakin' Orton pile up 250 yards passing on them has got to be weak.

Best Current Steelers Player most Bengal Fans have Never Heard Of?

Keep your eye on Stefan Logan.  He's our new punt/kick returner, a refugee from the CFL the Steelers rescued to help their anemic special teams.  He's been one broken tackle away from breaking one a few times already this season and I have a feeling this may be his week.

Who Wins the Game and What's the Score?

Steelers 31-28.

If there was a steel cage match instead of a football game featuring one current player, who do you nominate?

Hines Ward vs. Keith Rivers.  It has all the makings of the classic WWE grudge match. Rivers wants revenge for Hines breaking his jaw.  Hines wants to lay the smack down on his candy ass.  I can see a titanic struggle with neither man giving an inch.  Then just as Hines is about to win, "No Chance In Hell" plays and Roger Goodell does a Vince McMahon strut down to the ring.  He informs the crowd they're changing the rules for no good reason so Rivers can win.  It's Bret "Hitman" Hart all over again.
