Welcome To Cincinnati Mr. Owens

by Under Argo 27. July 2010 18:15

Can you see it? I can. First and ten... the Bengals line up on their own 20-yard line. Carson Palmer is under center with Cedric Benson behind him. To his right, next to the tackle, is Jermain Gresham. Further out to the right is a familiar sight.... Chad Ochocinco. To his left, in the slot, is Jordan Shipley and further out to the left is a not so familiar, but welcome, sight..... Terrell Owens. The ball is snapped. Palmer puts the ball out like he's going to hand it off to Benson drawing the defense in. By the time they realize it's a play action fake, it's too late. Chad Ochocinco is open 20 yards down the field in the middle. Owens is in the middle of burning the defensive back that is covering him and Shipley is open across the middle at about 10 yards. Oh yeah.. Gresham. Gresham is being covered by a linebacker who is either too slow to cover him or a defensive back that is too small to cover him. He's open in the flat. Carson Palmer has so many options right now that his head exploads. They march down the field and score with ease. Owens and Ochocinco do a touchdown dance that is so beautiful, the referee won't even throw his flag... he's too busy drying his eyes.

Now that the Bengals have agreed to terms with TO, this seems to be more of a reality to me than a fantasy. Owens still has the ability to burn whoever is covering him and we all know what Ochocinco can do. Defenses will have to spread the wealth of talent to cover both of them which means no more constant double teaming Ochocinco. The Bengals just turned into one of the best passing teams in the NFL.

Congratulations, Mike Brown. You have opened my wallet and opened my heart. I can't wait to spend more money at your stadium.

Some News

by Number 1 fan 9. June 2010 02:53

According to TMZ, some of Chris Henry's organs were donated after his autopsy.

TMZ has obtained the NFL star's autopsy report, which shows that the 26-year-old's heart, lungs, liver, spleen, pancreas and kidneys were donated in the wake of his death on December 16, 2009.

One last bit of good for a guy that it seemed was trying to put his life back on the right track.

Joe Reedy talks kick returns.  I wonder how much of an impact will someone like Jordan Shipley make in the return game.

Mike Zimmer has been given the George S. Halas Award by the Pro Football Writers of America.  This is an award given to the person in the NFL who overcame the most adversity to succeed in the previous season. I can't think of a more deserving person after what he and the Bengals faced last season.

Antwan Odom is ready to play. I have to agree, I think the production we saw from this guy last season was incredible and with some improvements to the defense in the offseason I would love to see him pick up where he left off.

Lastly here is another example of Chad Ochocinco being awesome Chad gave an autographed jersey and then showed up and led a verse of happy birthday for a needy kid. Read the article Chad haters. Below is some of the note written by the 9 year old to Chad.

Mr. Johnson, you really make me happy. One of my goals in my future life is to be just like you when I grow up. I wonder who was your role model when you were little? I have three role model(s) in my life that's my mom, Mr. President Barack Obama and my favorite football player Mr. Chad Johnson. To me you are the best football player in the NFL. May God bless you and your family happy holidays.

Trading in His Football Shoes for Dancing Shoes

by Under Argo 1. March 2010 22:51

Do I even need to tell you who this article is about?  Yep.  Chad.  It's unofficially official that Chad Ochocinco will be tearing up the dance floor on this season of "Dancing With The Stars" (a show that I've never watched... I've never even heard about it until just now... what is this dance that you speak of?).

Chad's going to join Dolphin defensive end Jason Taylor as the only active NFL player to star on the show.  Ex-NFL players to be on the show include Warren "Saucy" Sapp, Emmitt "Slick Moves" Smith and Jerry "Rico Suave" Rice.  There is no doubt in my mind that Chad can dance circles around all of these wanna-be ballerinas.

The show premiers on March 22nd.  I'll be too busy chopping down trees and growing a beard to tune in but feel free to leave your thoughts in our comments section.  I swear I won't make fun of you.

Good luck, Chad.  The NFL won't be able to fine you for your dancing where you're going so let loose.

OchoCinco - He's Lovin' it

by Number 1 fan 8. February 2010 20:27

Chad OchoCinco is the subject of much debate for fans of the Bengals and for pretty much everyone else.  It seems people either love him or hate him. A lot of people love to blame him for the problems the Bengals have, but we at WhoDeyFans are Chad fans. People that claim he only cares about himself have forgotten what he has done for the fans of the Bengals. The video above was from the Super Bowl fan zone last Friday at the McDonalds tent. He also gave away 85 of the snack wraps to the fans in attendance.

Chad also took the time to list  “Top Ten Reasons the NFL Changed Its Mind and Invited Me to the Pro Bowl.”.

#10: After all of my fines this year, it’s the least they could do!

#9: With the Pro Bowl back in Miami, they needed the hometown boy to Tweet about it.

#8: Did you really think I wouldn’t show up anyway? I mean, it’s South Beach.

#7: McDonald’s knows that I alone can give them a sales boost in the Miami area – morning, noon and night, baby!

#6: I offered to pay for my own travel… I mean, I took a bus down here. I’m not joking.

#5: You think Revis shut me down? Child Please. I had Mac Snack Wraps on my mind…

#4: Let’s face it, there’s really no game without me in it.

#3: If I wasn’t invited, I would’ve changed my name to Matt Schaub so I was on the roster. I mean it’s not the first time…

#2: They wanted to see Esteban OchoCinco again. Although he didn’t take the field, our team was still victorioso!

#1: If I wasn’t here, who’d hand-out the free Mac Snack Wraps? McDonald’s needs me just like the NFL needs me – You better kiss da baby!

So Chad again makes a bunch of fans happy and I hope he made a couple bucks for it.

Boomer Esiason has something to say

by Number 1 fan 5. February 2010 10:03

I checked out the Dayton Daily news and read that Boomer Esiason decided to open his mouth and join the "Let's hate on Chad" crowd.

"Boomer said that he’s “not a fan of Ochocinco” and that Chad is all about Chad — not the team. He went on to say how he believes Chad’s antics leading up to games each week — like trash-talking defensive backs — get other teams focused because they don’t want to be shown up.

He said the Bengals should part ways with Ochocinco now, but pointed out that head coach Marvin Lewis probably doesn’t have the authority to cut or even properly discipline Chad because of heavy handed owner Mike Brown.

Boomer talked about how teams like the Cowboys and Eagles got better after they got rid of a wide receiver with a similar personality, Terrell Owens."

Let me start by saying I used to have a Boomer Esiason poster on my wall.  I still have a ratty old t-shirt from the early 90's with his face on it. That Boomer Esiason will always have a special place in my heart.

The Boomer Esiason that continues to run his mouth about the Bengals is a tool. I hate how Boomer has become the media voice of the Bengals on the pregame shows. This guy has not been a part of the Bengals for a long time and to think he still has some insight on the operations of this current team is a joke. Boomer has not been a fan of Chad Ochocinco for some time. He thinks Chad is a guy that is all about himself and not the team. This is a popular opinion of people that DO NOT FOLLOW THE BENGALS.

Does Chad do some crazy things and does he like media attention?  Absolutely. Does he also work harder than most wide outs in the NFL and does he produce year in and year out? Yep. Chad wants to win as much as anyone. Does he want to win for himself? Of course. In order for Chad to win, the team has to win, pretty simple concept.

So what is going on with Boomer? Is he a Bengal fan? I have a few theories based off some popular movies of the 80's.

1. The Pretty Woman version:

Scenario: Boomer is the character of Richard Gere and Chad is Julia Roberts. Chad is a flamboyant guy just trying to make a few dollars and Boomer gets close to him because he needs what Chad has. (In this case it is being close to one of the most popular sports media topics, the Cincinnati Bengals. However, lumping Chad in with the other street walkers (NFL diva receivers) and listening to some of his friends and business partners (other media a-holes), he lashes out at Chad.

Resolution: Boomer will learn the error of his ways and woo Chad with a limo ride and some roses. he probably will make a public statement claiming to care about the wide out and only want the best for the Cincinnati Bengals.

2. The Footloose version:

Scenario: Boomer is the character of Jon Lithgow and Chad is Kevin Bacon. Chad is an individual that just doesn't quite fit in. He wants to have some fun in a place where his kind of fun is frowned upon. Even though what he does is harmless, Boomer leads the charge to get him to change his ways.

Resolution: Boomer decides to let Chad do it his way and the Bengals end up having a successful dance (Super Bowl).

3. The Iron Eagle Version:

Scenario: Boomer is Louis Gossett Jr and Chad is Jason Gedrick. Chad has a goal of saving his father (winning the big game) and Boomer begins by telling him he is not good enough, it can't be done. Chad continues to do it his way and even has his closest friends (the other wide outs) help him to prove to Boomer that his way can work.

Resolution: This motivates Chad and Boomer, so together they do what is necessary to bring dear old dad (the ring) home.

Personally I like the Iron Eagle version, I still tear up a little when Doug finally gets to hug his dad at the end, and smile when we find out Chappy really didn't die.

Boomer needs to focus on his NY radio show and whatever he still does for the pre-game shows. To give this guy more credit when he says something about the Bengals just because he used to be number 7 is pretty dumb. Now, he is just another mouth on TV and radio.

Bengals Un-Snubbed in Pro Bowl

by Under Argo 15. January 2010 14:32

Wes Welker out, Chad Ochocinco in.  Chad Ochocinco will be playing in the Pro Bowl in Miami this year.  Wes Welker was orriginally voted into the Pro Bowl but tore his MCL and ACL in his left knee January third against the Texans.  Ochocinco is the only Bengals player who made the Pro Bowl roster this year but he isn't the only one who deserved to make it.  Cedric Benson, Jonathan Joseph, and Leon Hall all deserved to be in the Pro Bowl this year.  Now their only chance of making it is if the people ahead of them either play in the Super Bowl or get hurt in the playoffs.  The players above Benson are Chris Johnson (understandable), Maurice Jones-Drew (bull crap), and Ray Rice (Benson had more yards this year than Jones-Drew and Rice).  The guys above Hall and Joseph are Darrelle Revis (understandable), Nnamdi Asomugha (eh), and Champ Bailey (utterly incomprehensible).  Hopefully the Bengals players will do better in the popularity contest next year.

Child please....

by Number 1 fan 11. January 2010 20:15

This is a post about Chad Ochocinco.  I have heard on the radio and also read online people blaming Chad for the end of season performance from the Bengals.  To this I say Child Please. These are the fickle fans that have little football knowledge and drive me up a wall.  Just because there are not stats on the sheet does not mean that a guy did not have a good game.

You could argue that Chad's stats were down, but he also had a quarterback who has been struggling trying to get him the ball and always faced the opposing teams number one corner.  In the game against the Jets, some of Benson's biggest runs were to Chad's side of the field where he was busy blocking Revis out of the play.  You know, the number one corner in the NFL.  On one series in particular he kept Revis out of the field of play and on his ass blocking for the run.  Most prima donna receivers will not make these blocks.

The same people that are bitching about Ustream and twitter are the same who say it is only him having fun when the Bengals are winning.  Some of you state that Chad should spend less time on twitter and more time on football. To this I say, what the hell are you doing reading this blog?  Get back to work.  You see athletes, like you, have free time during the day too. I don't care what they spend that time doing.

The other day I read an article on the cool new blog StalkingStevePhillips.com outlining the awesomeness of Chad. Take a look at it and know even at 32, Chad is one of the best wide outs in the NFL still.

What I did and didn't like - Chargers

by Number 1 fan 21. December 2009 10:33

Very close game on the road against the hottest team in the NFL right now. With the number 2 seed now out of reach for the Bengals, they need to focus on closing the division this weekend.  A win against KC this weekend guarantees a home playoff game in the first round of the playoffs and the division championship.  I would much rather have it decided this week than be in a must win situation on the road in NY.

What I liked:

- There it is. The Bengals passing game is not lost.  Palmer had his first 300 yd game of this season and he played with fire I have not seen from him except for the last minute comebacks earlier in the year.

- Palmer's fumble recovery.  When that ball popped out, I was thinking 6 for the Chargers.  Still not sure how he got there so fast.

- Coles and Cosby both stepped up in the passing game.

- JP. In this game, he was a legitimate tight end threat.

- Chad. If heart was measured on the scoreboard, his alone would have won this game.

What I didn't like:

- Why do you not put a safety over with Leon Hall? He was having a tough day on some big receivers. it seemed like he was being outplayed all day.

- Kick returns were a little suspect.  What’s with the hesitation, put your head down and run.

- Questionable d play calling in the last minute.  This is one of those times when you are a hero or a goat. If the blitz would have caused a turnover or sack, we would all praise it. Personally, I would have had more db coverage then an all out blitz.

All in all, this was a game where the Bengals proved they can play with any team in the NFL. Keep the chip on the shoulder.  This is a team that could make a nice playoff run.

What I did and didn't like - Raven in PBS

by Number 1 fan 9. November 2009 10:21

4 and 0 in the division. The Bengals just beat the Baltimore Ravens for the second time this season. This is a game I was worried about.  The Ravens are a confident team that I thought would be looking for blood. However, the Bengals outplayed them (again) to take the sweep.

What I didn't like:

The Chris Henry and Keith Rivers injuries are tough. Henry was really demanding respect on the field on Sunday. When he was out there Ed Reed cheated to his side. Rivers, although the MRI was negative still may miss some time and that hurts as the Bengals are preparing to play the Steelers for the second time in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

I also don't like that Chad fumbled the ball twice. However, Chad played a hell of a game and he was trying to squeeze every inch of yardage out of the Ravens after the catch and I can't fault him for that.  Remember in the first matchup Ray Lewis took a cheap shot on Chad and I am sure Chad wanted to show that he is not intimidated.

What I liked:

How awesome is Cedric Benson? No one can run for 100 yds against the Ravens D. Benson does it twice in a couple of weeks. He also finished strong one time putting all world safety Ed Reed on his ass to squeeze a couple more yards.

Laveranues Coles had his biggest day as a Bengal. He had 70+ yds and a huge run on a reverse where he was stopped for a loss, broke the tackle and gave the Bengals a first and goal on the 2.

Carson Palmer has really returned to his '05 form. He is making time in the backfield with his legs and has excellent downfield vision. He is also putting the ball in tight spots and allowing his receivers the chance to make plays on the ball.

After this game I am very confident in the Bengals playoff hopes. I expect the mailing from the Bengals at any time and I am ready to write that check.

Celebrating Ochocinco

by Number 1 fan 27. October 2009 20:34

Say hello to the number 4 wide receiver in the NFL so far this year.

Chad Ochocinco is currently 4th in the NFL in receiving yds. This is not bad for a wide receiver that many Bengals fans considered on the downside of his career. Chad is obviously one of the finer talents in the NFL still but I wanted to talk about what else Chad brings.

Many fans of other teams (and probably some Bengal fans) don't like Chad at all. I still have trouble understanding why someone wouldn't like a guy who goes out of his way to thank his fans. You constantly hear stories of Chad taking 100 people to the movies, or dinner. In the past he bought bottled water for fans waiting in line on a hot day for an event. He also ordered Pizza's for groups of fans camped out to get tickets one year.  More recently he helped buy 1200 game tickets and then gave them away to 600 lucky people.

People still like to claim Chad is in the game for personal stats and not the team.  Pop over to the NFL network and watch the highlights from Cedric Benson's amazing day. In many clips you will see 85 throwing the block that gets Benson around the corner. Chad still practices as hard as when he came into the league. He studies film as much as anyone and who doesn't want a guy on their team that tries to be the best at his position?

With this week being a bye week I thought I would call out several of the Bengal players who have been under appreciated recently. Let us know in the comments if you agree or disagree with our thoughts.  I know you are out there. Read almost any Bengal blog from last season, find the comments of people screaming for the heads of Bengals players we are currently enamored with.
